Patterns that are freeform. Industrial, mass-produced objects liberated from the hands of the free. Adamson-Eric is renowned for his inventive use of patterns. Beyond his pattern book, I am especially struck by his hand-painted ceramics on mass-produced tiles and porcelains, which convey, to me, a strong sense of freedom.
Patterns and moulds are often understood as systems or order imposed on materials during the making process, exerting as much control as possible. In response, I attempt to create moulds that are freeform — casting objects without definite borders, and in doing so, generating my own “free” patterns.
